SEO for Canadian contractors, from renovation crews to the trades.
Canadian homeowners say renovation, not remodeling. They look for a contractor, a reno crew or a licensed tradesperson, and they check HomeStars and Google reviews before they call.
This page is for contractors and trades in Canada, including electricians, septic services, general contractors and renovators: local SEO that uses Canadian terms and sources, with a complete Google Business Profile, a page for each job and tracked calls.

The short answer
SEO for Canadian contractors and renovators: a complete Google Business Profile, a page for each job in the words Canadians search, HomeStars and licence proof and tracked calls. Local SEO plans start at $399 a month (USD), and rankings cannot be guaranteed. Written by Prakhar Kirsali, working remotely.
Sound familiar?
Why US-style contractor SEO misses in Canada.
- The site talks about remodeling and US codes, while Canadian homeowners search for renovation, reno and the trade by name
- The Google Business Profile is complete, but HomeStars, Houzz and other Canadian listings show different details
- Licence numbers, safety-authority registration and insurance are missing, and they differ by trade and province
- Outdoor work such as roofing, decks and septic installs is seasonal, yet the site is published as if work runs all year
- Rural and small-town customers are ignored, even though many contractors serve a mix of city, suburb and country
- No French version for Quebec, or a French version that is not connected to the English one
What is different in Canada
What changes when the customer is in Canada.
Renovation, not remodeling
Pages, headings and titles use the words Canadians search, such as renovation, basement finishing, kitchen renovation and bathroom renovation, with Canadian spelling. The right words decide which searches you appear for.
Licensing and registration by trade and province
Examples include the Electrical Safety Authority and TSSA in Ontario, Technical Safety BC, Quebec's Régie du bâtiment, and Red Seal certificates for many trades. Show what applies to your trade and province, plus insurance and workplace safety coverage, and check the wording against your regulator.
Canadian review and listing sources
Google first, then HomeStars, Houzz, Yellow Pages Canada, the Better Business Bureau and, for renovators, the RenoMark program run by the Canadian Home Builders' Association. Consistent details across them support trust and the map results.
Seasons by job type
Outdoor jobs cluster in the warm months, while interior renovation and emergency repairs run year-round. The publishing calendar for each trade follows its season.
City, suburb and rural customers
Service areas are written by municipality or region, and rural work such as septic and well service gets pages that name the communities you travel to.
Language
Quebec businesses generally need French pages, written or reviewed by a native speaker and connected to the English pages with hreflang.
What the work covers
What contractor SEO covers for a Canadian company.
Google Business Profile
Categories, services, service areas and photos set up for your trade, with honest hours and a reply to every review.
A page for each job
Panel upgrades and EV chargers for electricians, septic pumping and inspections, basement finishing, kitchen and bathroom renovations, roofing and more, each answering what that customer asks.
Project pages with real photos
Galleries and short project write-ups, with the customer's permission, showing the scope, the city and what the job involved.
Municipality and region pages
Pages for the places you truly serve, with local detail, rather than dozens of thin copies.
Reviews and Canadian listings
A request after each job that names the work and the city, and consistent details on the Canadian sources your customers check.
Call and form tracking
Calls and enquiries tracked by page, so you can see which jobs and pages produce estimates. How tracking works.

Markets across Canada
Where it applies.
The work is remote, so any Canadian market works. These are patterns I plan around, not claims about results I have already delivered there, and before I write any page I check the real search results for that city.
Toronto and the GTA
Large, competitive and split into many municipalities. Pages by municipality and trade, with real project photos, beat regional pages.
Vancouver and British Columbia
Older homes, strata buildings and heavy permit requirements make planning and cost guides useful.
Calgary and Edmonton
Fast-growing suburbs and a mix of new-build and renovation work, with strong seasonal swings.
Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City
Bilingual searching, and Quebec contractors generally need French pages.
Prairies and rural Canada
Wide service areas, rural septic and well work, and long winters that shape the calendar.
Atlantic Canada
Smaller markets where a complete profile and a handful of strong pages can lift a contractor above larger competitors.
Pricing
What local SEO costs.
Most Canadian contractors start with Local SEO Foundations: the profile, consistent listings and the core service pages. Companies covering several cities or trades usually move to Growth.
Full details, including the founding-client offer, are on the pricing page.
| Plan | Price | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| GBP Essentials | $399/month | Google Business Profile only: weekly posts, review replies, photos, spam monitoring |
| Local SEO Foundations | $799/month | Profile plus citations, core service pages and one new page a month |
| Local SEO Growth | $1,499/month | Competitive markets or several towns: more pages, local links, quarterly strategy call |
One-time setup is $195 to $395, covering citation clean-up and the first technical fixes.
Prices are in US dollars. CAD invoicing is available as a custom quote, and ad spend is reported in CAD. For the full price list and the founding-client offer, see the pricing page.
The first 90 days
What working together looks like for a Canadian contractor.
Weeks 1 to 2: audit and tracking
A review of your profile, site, listings and Search Console, plus call and form tracking so every later decision uses real numbers.
Weeks 3 to 6: fix and publish
Profile and listings corrected, licence and insurance proof added, and the first job and municipality pages written and published.
Weeks 7 to 12: build and measure
Project pages and guides added, reviews growing, and a first report on impressions, rankings and tracked calls by page.
SEO builds over months. Many contractors see their profile and key pages move within two to four months, and big metros take longer. Nothing here is guaranteed, and you will see the numbers either way. For trade-specific pages, see HVAC, plumbing and roofing in Canada, or electricians, septic, construction and remodeling in general.
Proof
What I can and cannot show you.
The case studies on this site come from my previous roles, on events, fintech, education and e-commerce accounts in the Gulf and India, not from contractors. What carries over is the method: tracking first, then structure, then steady weekly work measured on booked estimates from search.
