Local Services Ads checklist: 43 checks before you apply

Short answer

Use this Local Services Ads checklist to get ready before you apply. It has 43 checks drawn from Google's own help pages, covering eligibility, business registration, license and insurance, background checks, your profile and reviews, billing and how you respond to leads. Availability and requirements vary by trade, area and country, so run Google's eligibility check first.

Many owners still search for the Google Guaranteed requirements. Google now shows a single Google Verified badge, earned by passing screening and verification, and the checks you face vary by category and location. This LSA verification checklist helps you gather the documents and habits Google asks about, so the process takes weeks and not months.

It is based on Google's Local Services Ads help pages, mainly "Understand the screening and verification process" and "Business screening and verification requirements", plus the "Local Services Ads requirements", "About ad rankings" and "Manage leads and jobs" pages, as they read on 13 October 2026. Google changes them, so check the current pages and your own dashboard. Septic eligibility is not confirmed: see group 1. For the bigger picture, read our Local Services Ads guide.

Start with Google's eligibility check

No blog post can tell you whether Local Services Ads are open for your trade in your town. Google decides by category, country and area, and the sign-up flow checks your address and trade. Run that check first, with the exact address and category you will use, and write down the result. Google's Canadian pages are separate from the US pages, so read the one for your country. For Canada specifically see Local Services Ads in Canada, and for trades see which trades Local Services Ads cover.

On septic: we did not find septic named on the Google pages we read. The US requirements page, as we read it, lists categories with names such as sewage systems and drain expert, the latter shown for California and Florida only. Whether a septic pumping company fits either category, or any category in your area, is not confirmed. Use the eligibility check, and if the answer is unclear, ask Local Services Ads support.

Group 1: Eligibility and the right category

Availability and requirements vary by trade, area and country, and Google changes them. Start with Google's own eligibility check rather than a list in a blog post.

Group 2: Business identity and registration

Most verification delays come from names and addresses that do not match across documents. Fix them before you apply.

Group 3: Licenses and insurance

These documents are the heart of verification for trades. Know what Google asks for, in your category, before you start.

Group 4: People and background checks

In some categories Google runs background checks that cover the business, the owners and the technicians who do core work. Plan them as part of hiring.

Group 5: Profile, pricing and reviews

The ad profile is what a homeowner sees before calling. Google says completed verification, rating, number of reviews and response time all feed into profile quality.

Group 6: Billing, response and ongoing operations

Verification gets the ads live. Keeping them live depends on billing, answering leads and staying inside the rules.

How to score yourself

This checklist is not a pass or fail test, and Google decides who is verified, not us. Use the score to see what to prepare. Weak groups point to different delays.

What a gap usually delays
Weak groupWhat it usually delays
Eligibility and categoryWasted weeks preparing for a program that may not be open to you
Identity and registrationVerification stalls on mismatched names, addresses or a missing business number
Licenses and insuranceRejected documents, or a pause later when something expires
People and background checksA technician who cannot take leads until cleared
Profile, pricing and reviewsA weak listing, or a violation about pricing disclosure
Billing and responseAds that stop, or leads that go unanswered and hurt responsiveness

Google says screening and verification takes about three to four weeks on average after documents are submitted, and recommends starting soon after you create the account. Some eligible US advertisers can get the badge quickly through accelerated verification but then have 14 days to finish further steps to keep ads running.

What to fix first

  1. The eligibility check and category. There is no point preparing documents for something that is not available to you.
  2. Matching names. Make the legal name, address and phone identical on registration, insurance, license and profile.
  3. The business number. A D-U-N-S number can take up to 30 days to arrive, per Google, so apply first if you need one.
  4. The insurance certificate. Get a signed, current certificate with a policy number that meets the amount in your dashboard.
  5. The lead-response plan. Name who answers and how fast, before ads go live.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Submitting false or altered documents. Google lists false verification information as prohibited, and it can lead to suspension.
  • Paying anyone who promises approval. Only Google decides.
  • Letting someone else submit documents without you reading them. You are responsible for what is said about your business.
  • Leaving renewals to chance. A lapsed insurance or license date can pause ads.
  • Treating it as a set-and-forget channel. Reply to leads quickly, since Google says responsiveness affects how likely your ad is to produce a lead.
  • Using the old Google Guaranteed wording. Describe the badge as Google Verified.

Where LiveLeadsLane fits

LiveLeadsLane is a new, founder-led remote practice run by Prakhar Kirsali. We can help organize the documents, check that names match and manage the account once you are verified, as part of Local Services Ads management, which starts at $375 a month plus the ad spend you pay Google (we recommend at least $1,500 a month per platform). We cannot speed up Google's review or promise approval or lead volume. Google's help pages are free and clear, and many owners complete the process themselves. Frequently asked questions

What are the Google Guaranteed requirements now?
Google now uses a single Google Verified badge, earned by passing Local Services screening and verification. The checks vary by category and location and can include business registration, a verified Business Profile, license, insurance and background checks. Your Local Services dashboard shows which apply to you.
How do I know if I am eligible for Local Services Ads?
Use the eligibility check in the sign-up flow with your exact business address and trade. Availability varies by trade, area and country, and Google changes it over time. A blog post cannot answer it for you. If the result is unclear, ask Local Services Ads support.
Can a septic company use Local Services Ads?
It is not confirmed. We did not find septic named on the Google pages we read. Google lists related categories on its requirements page, but whether a septic company fits one in your area is unknown. Run the eligibility check and ask Google support if unclear.
How long does Local Services Ads verification take?
Google says screening and verification takes about three to four weeks on average after you submit documents, and recommends starting soon after creating your account. Mismatched names and missing documents are common causes of delay. Some US advertisers can qualify for accelerated verification.
Do I need insurance and a license for Local Services Ads?
Where the law and Google require it for your category, yes. Google verifies licenses where it can, and asks for a current certificate of insurance in North America that meets the minimum shown in your dashboard. Check the current rules for your state or province.
What happens after I am verified?
Your ads can run once billing, budget and your profile are set. You then need to respond to leads quickly, keep documents current and follow Google's requirements. Google re-evaluates advertisers regularly, and missing a requested review can lead to a lost badge, paused ads or suspension.
